Making a Jin

Creating a Jin is creating deadwood on a Bonsai tree to give it an older aspect and to make it more attractive. A Jin is mostly created by cutting back an unwanted branch and removing the bark with the Jin pliers.

 

When the branch is cut back in a clean way you want to make it look as if it's broken off by lightning, wind or through the wear and tear of age. This is when your Jin pliers are useful to crush the clean edge of the cut branch and tear it until it looks like mother nature did the trick.
